There are many reasons to drive the new 2018 Chevrolet Impala. It comes with powerful engine, stylish modern design, spacious cabin and cargo area, and high-tech accessories that will surely satisfy smart device users. We will now explore some of the greatest features that this full-size sedan offers and some features that still need improving.
Strong Points
There are several points about this full-size sedan that makes it a worthy luxury but affordable vehicle to buy and to keep.
1. Excellent Infotainment System
We decide to start with the car’s infotainment system before anything else because it does give a true hi-tech touch to the decades-old Impala. 2018 Chevrolet Impala includes a complete set of infotainment system that integrates well with your Apple and Android device. The car includes a Wi-Fi system paired with subscription-based OnStar 4G LTE, navigation system, Bluetooth, and Apple CarPlay as well as Android Auto connectivity system. Even the cheapest LS model includes a large 8-inch color touchscreen panel, Chevrolet MyLink Radio, and a rearview camera. More advanced trims include dual-zone climate control, remote engine start, and extra USB slots. The base infotainment of this car is better than that of many of its competitors.
2. Striking Exterior Look and Generous Space
2018 Chevrolet Impala is no longer considered an old-fashioned car with bland and unattractive look. The cosmetic enhancement introduced in the newest model is significant enough to give the car a fresh new look. The grille is not oversized, but in perfect proportion. The long and sexy curve that starts with the hood and continues to the windshield that offers excellent road visibility and then to the sweptback roof gives an impression of elegance and power. The trunk area appears short, but it is actually an illusion that hides a cargo area with generous space. The cabin also feels roomy with ample legroom especially in the rear seat area.
3. Comfortable Ride
2018 Chevrolet Impala offers excellent driving experience to drivers. The windshield is nicely swept and, together with the car’s upright seating position, offers great visibility of the road. All models use front-wheel drive system that offers excellent handling especially on slippery road. Despite the seemingly bulky size of the car, the steering is actually quite easy to handle and not too heavy.
Weak Points
There are many great enhancements introduced by this car; however, to keep it affordable enough for mainstream customers, some sacrifices do need to be made.
1. No Hybrid Option
Fuel economy has become a common jargon nowadays and in fact, 2018 Chevrolet Impala does try to be efficient in using fuel by setting up its torque converter to lock often. However, fuel economy is best achieved by introducing a hybrid trim and, unfortunately, there is no hybrid option for Impala. So, while this option is available on competitors like Toyota Avalon, you may need to skip the electric-gasoline match if you plan to buy a new Chevy Impala.
2. All-Wheel Drive System Might Be Better
For a relatively large sedan, an all-wheel drive system might be better to offer better control and handling. All 2018 Chevrolet Impala variants use front-wheel drive system and this can be bad news for all-wheel drive lovers. However, this is actually not a big deal, given the fact that there are very few competitors that include all-wheel drive system in their car lineup, the most notable of which being Dodge Charger.
3. Limited Backseat Head Room
While this full-size sedan does offer generous interior space and legroom, its head room, especially in the back, may cause problem to taller passengers. Nonetheless, for passengers with average body types, 2018 Chevrolet Impala should be a sufficiently comfortable sedan that offers great comfort and more than enough space to breathe.
Price
The price of 2018 Chevrolet Impala ranges from around $28,000 to more than $40,000 depending on the trim that you choose and the number of optional features that you include in your purchase. The base LS model is the cheapest model that is available for slightly under $29,000; however, buying the LT trim is considered a better decision because adding an extra of $2000 will not hurt if you can get extra hi-tech features in your car, including dual-zone climate control, remote engine start, and extra USB slots. Both the LS and LT models use 2.5-liter inline-4 engine, which, although not the best performer, does offer smooth and comfortable ride. The most advanced model is the Premier model with price starting at $37,000. It is a real performer that runs on a 3.6-liter V6 engine for a more satisfying and thrilling ride.
